Just as Cheerios cereal helps fuel kids to start the day, reading gives them the power to succeed in life. Parents and families play a critical role in making reading a priority.

For the last 6 years, Cheerios has made a significant commitment to childhood literacy through our Spoonfuls of Stories® program. For the sixth year in a row, Cheerios is putting FIVE MILLION great children’s books free inside boxes of Cheerios cereal.  This year’s book offerings from Cheerios are five great titles from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, including a book that Cheerios had specially printed in both English and Spanish. Look for these books in specially marked boxes of Cheerios cereal at your favorite retailers.

In addition, Cheerios is again working with First Book, an award-winning children’s literacy nonprofit, to give a year’s worth of children’s books to 50 reading programs serving disadvantaged children across the country.  Over the past six years, Cheerios has donated more than $2.5 million to support First Book and its mission:  to help get brand new books to children from low-income families.

Also this summer, we encouraged aspiring children’s book authors to write and share their best story – through our Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories Children’s Book Contest.

The contest has ended and we are reading through all of the wonderful stories to find our winners. We will be announcing our top three in January so remember to visit www.spoonfulsofstories.com to meet our winning authors!
