Mary L. Gavin, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician and a medical editor at KidsHealth.org. Dr. Gavin is responsible for ensuring the medical accuracy of health information created for the KidsHealth website and other media produced by the Nemours Center for Children’s Health Media. She is the lead author of Fit Kids: A practical guide to raising healthy and active children - from birth to teens published by DK in 2004. Dr. Gavin is regularly interviewed by the media on a wide array of topics affecting children’s health. She has done more than 100 interviews with print, radio, online, and TV outlets in the past two years, including a 13-city media tour to promote the release of Fit Kids.

A pediatrician for 13 years, Dr. Gavin currently practices at the A.I. duPont Hospital for Children’s Weight Management Clinic in Wilmington, DE. She was previously based in Buffalo, New York, where she worked both in private practice and community health centers.

She received her BA from Vassar College and her MD from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Dr. Gavin was selected from a national search to receive the Nemours Center for Children's Health Media Fellowship, which she completed in April 2004.
