Time to Play Outside? Check Your Supplies
Having a good supply of outdoor games and sporting equipment encourages kids to play freely. The variety also helps them stay interested if they get bored with their usual outdoor activities.

Take an inventory of what you have. Is it organized and in easy reach when your kids are looking for something to do? If not, set up a shelf, box, or bin where all the play equipment can be found.
These items are good ones to have on hand:
  • basketball
  • Wiffle ball set
  • foam football
  • soccer ball
  • volleyball and net
  • badminton set
  • flying discs
  • water guns
  • sidewalk chalk
  • jump rope
  • hula hoop
  • inline skates
  • tennis balls and racquets

Tips from real parents:
We have five acres, so our kids have lots of room to make up games. During the summer, we also hold an annual "Family Olympics," which involves 10 different stations where families participate in various activities.
