Kids develop a lot of important motor skills during the preschool years.

They include hopping, jumping, catching a ball, doing a somersault, skipping, and balancing on one foot. Parents can practice these skills with kids when they play and exercise together.

Here are some ideas:
  • Play follow the leader.
  • Kick a ball back and forth and set up a "goal" for the child to aim for.
  • Play bounce catch.
  • Set up a T-ball stand and teach your child to swing a plastic bat.
  • Make paper airplanes and practice throwing them.
  • Practice pretending to be statues or play freeze tag.

Tips from real parents:
My boys are twins and we find lots of ways to be active. We dig in the dirt together, planting is fun, rolling down a grass hill, chasing the dog and vice versa, being a dinosaur, or whatever their imagination desires.
