being active

Most young kids love to move around, so how do you turn that natural tendency into a lifelong commitment to activity? Parents first need to know which skills children have now and which ones they’re still working on. For instance, your child might be too young to understand the rules of soccer, but could be the perfect age to enjoy kicking a ball around the backyard. Knowing this, you help make physical activity fun, not frustrating. And because you’re out there in the backyard, too, you send the message that activity is something your family enjoys together. The articles below have some great tips on raising an active kid.

  • But Mom, I Don’t Like Sports!
Understanding your child’s fitness personality will help you to encourage your child's interests without pushing too hard.

  • Hopping, Skipping, and Learning
Parents can help their preschoolers develop their motor skills when they play and exercise together.

  • Time to Play Outside
Having a wide variety of outdoor games and sporting equipment encourages kids to play freely. Use our supply list to help them stay interested if they get bored with their usual outdoor activities.

  • Family Goal Chart
You can help motivate your family to be more active with these simple tactics!

  • Playtime for Preschoolers
Make playtime even more fun! Make playtime even more enriching by giving them a chance to play with kids their own age.
