Are there additives in Cheerios® ?

question icon

Yes: we add an emulsifier (similar to eggs in other baking recipes), and we add Vitamin E as a natural preservative.

The majority of ingredients in Cheerios® cereal include food substances whose names you will recognize like whole grain oats, sugar, salt and wheat starch (a thickener commonly used in home recipes). These are similar to the collection of ingredients you'll see in a lot of baked goods. You may not recognize Tripotassium Phosphate. It's a food emulsifier. It does the same thing as eggs, which are mixed into most baking recipes in order to hold substances like oil and water together. Vitamin E, specifically in the form of mixed tocopherols, is also included as a natural way of preserving freshness. Cheerios cereal is enriched with a variety of vitamins and minerals like Iron, Zinc and Vitamins A, B, C and D.
